Cancellation of Austwick Street Market & Fell Race
Monday 25th May 2020
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the decision reached by the Street Market committee to cancel this event. The principal reasons for the cancellation are the obvious risk to the health of our community, and new government measures announced this week. We hope that this important community event will resume in 2021.
We are so sorry to announce this, which will result in an enforced fallow year for the Street Market and Fell Race. Clearly this is not a course of action we wish to take for such an important community event that has been held annually for over 40 years. However, amidst such unprecedented uncertainty we believe this is now our only viable option. We had very much hoped that the situation across the UK would have improved by the end of May but this looks very unlikely.
We have considered the possibility of postponing the event until later in 2020, and conclude this is not viable.
The Fell Race organisers have been consulted, and agree that cancellation is required, and that postponement is not an option.
We would like to send our sincere apologies to those people who have already donated or committed their time to this event and will be in touch with them individually.
We have already committed some funds towards the 2020 event and will endeavour to obtain refunds or use the expenditure for a 2021 event.
