Donations are urgently required

The Settle Area Disabled Swimmers Group has been in existence for the past 25 years and caters for all types of problems, physical and mental, where water therapy can be beneficial. We are a small group (currently about 25 in number) we try to meet our financial obligations by subscriptions, donations, and fund raising efforts, although we are disadvantaged in this respect as disabled people are often physically limited in what they are able to undertake.

The pool hire cost are ever increasing to a point where our survival looks in doubt unless we are blessed with a few donations, Can you help ?
All donations large and small will be extremely welcome and will be acknowledged providing an address is given.

Settle and District Aid in Sickness Fund.

Quoted from  of the Austwick Parish Council Website.

"This  is a charity operating in the Settle area, including Austwick, which makes grants to people who are sick and suffering some financial difficulties as a result. In particular, the Fund may help with:

(1)    The supply of bedding, comforts, food, fuel and medical or other aids.

(2)    Grants for the benefit of persons who are sick, infirm, convalescent or in need of rest or change of air to defray the expenses of recuperative holidays or of obtaining domestic help.

Put simply, what this means is that the Fund may help practically, for instance by lending mobility aids, or financially by helping with costs for a carer or patient to take a break. Anything in fact which would ease the burden of illness.

The Austwick representative for the Fund is

Councillor Robert Cooksley

Telephone: 015242 51235

Email: curlew@austwick.org

If you feel that you can benefit from the Fund or if you are aware of someone who may benefit, please contact Robert Cooksley, who will deal with all the necessary formalities.

Parish Councils and Parish Meetings.
Rural areas are made up of Parish Councils and Parish Meetings.

Each Parish Council comprises Councillors (unpaid), who have been elected to represent their area and deal with the problems and issues raised by individual electors and to communicate such issues to District and County Councils that are ultimately responsible for services. Parish Councils and Parish Meetings have little direct power and usually do not have large funds or own lots of assets.

The Parish Meetings each have a Chairperson (elected by the Parishes at an Annual Meeting) to represent the Parishes' views. The Parish Councils/Meetings are consulted on planning applications, local plans and other issues that may affect the electorate in their area.

The Local Government Code of Conduct has been introduced to help build and maintain public confidence in local government and also protect the Councillors concerned from accusations of unethical behaviour. Parish Councillors are obliged to sign up to the Code of Conduct and, in doing so, pledge to observe the requirements contained within it.

Parish Councillors must also supply relevant information for a  'register of interests', a public document that lists their affiliation to, or membership of, other bodies and also any employment or business that they carry out.  It will also contain details of any land within the parish boundary in which they have a beneficial interest.
